VALTER SUMMER CINEMA

The Film Center Sarajevo organized Valter Summer Cinema for the first time this year in the open space of the former Sutjeska film studio at Jagomir. On the first evening of the program, monday, September 7th, the audience had the opportunity to enjoy the regional premiere of the film “Lights of Sarajevo”, a documentary film directed by Srđan Perkić. The documentary film is dedicated to one of the most important bands in our region, Zabranjeno Pušenje, and the film had its world premiere in the Competition Programme of this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival. After the screening of the film at the Summer Cinema, director Perkić introduced himself to the audience, who together with the film’s producer Amra Hadžihafizbegović expressed his honor and satisfaction that the film had its second screening at the Film Center.

After the screening of the film “Lights of Sarajevo”, there was a film music concert by the Apollo Association from Posušje, who treated the Sarajevo audience with musical content that enriched our Summer Cinema with their covers of famous film songs.

The Apollo Culture Promotion Association was founded in the year of 2013. Art, music, dramatic scenes, filmmaking, ecology, intercultural and interreligious dialogue, education, lifelong learning are some of the continuous activities of the Association. The Apollo Culture Promotion Association is in friendly and partnership relations with academies, faculties, institutions, companies, both regional and international.

The film music concert is one of the sectors of the Association that refers to the promotion of music and films of both regional and foreign productions. The concert at Summer Cinema Valter is only their first performance in which they presented themselves to the Sarajevo audience, and the reactions and enthusiasm for their work showed us the value and quality of what they do.

Although a screening of the film “Partisan Squadron” was planned for the second evening of the Summer Cinema, unfortunately, due to technical reasons, the screening had to be canceled, and we are planning it for next summer.

On the third evening of the Summer Cinema programme, on Wednesday, September 9th, a screening of the film “Walter Defends Sarajevo” was held, where the audience’s reactions to the film and the enthusiasm that this classic still evokes today, especially among young audiences, showed us the value and significance of this film has in our society and our community.

It was a significant experience for the Film Center Sarajevo, and for us, the team of the Film Center together with the general manager Ines Tanović, to see through this project that our audience cares about our iconic films and that the Valter Summer Cinema is a project that we need and must continue in the future. Visit Sarajevo, who supported our project, gave us additional motivation to share our resources, i.e. our films and our space, with an audience that in our city does not often have the opportunity to experience open-air cinema. Because of our audience, we are persistent in our intention to plan the Summer Cinema for the next year and in an even bigger capacity.

See you at Filmski!
