The Mayor of Sarajevo City Benjamina Karić has visited the Film Center of Sarajevo

The Mayor of Sarajevo City Benjamina Karić has visited the Film Center of Sarajevo. Together with the executive manager of Film Center of Sarajevo, Ines Tanović, they had a discussion about strengthening the collaboration between the City and Film Center through mutual projects. 

One of the discussion was about the project regarding the Bistrik station which is going to be restored in its full authenticity and open for citizens and tourists. 

Considering the symbolic value of the location of this historical and tourist object, Karić and Tanović have considered the possibility of ennobling this National monument with the installments from the museum “Walter Defends Sarajevo”. 

On this occasion, executive manager Tanović has introduced Mayor Karić with the plans of new projects, whose ultimate goal is to revive the Film Center in order to become the driving force of Bosnian and Herzegovinian’s film industry, but also a place of education for younger generations. 

Tanović emphasized that the Film Center inherits a rich collection of films with more than 500 documentaries and over 80 feature films which were produced by “Bosna film”, “Studio film” and “Sutjeska film” production companies. 

The film material in possession of the Film Center has recently been proclaimed a National Monument, and the American embassy has donated the funds to preserve and digitize the materials, Tanović added. 

Mayor Karić emphasized the belief that her visit to the Film Center is only the beginning of cooperation as a partner of the preservation of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovians’ film treasure. 

“Sarajevo Film Festival, Sarajevo UNESCO City of Film, Film Center with the Museum Walter Defends Sarajevo, first film museum in the Balkans, many european and worldwide acknowledgments that Bosnian and Herzegovian filmmakers have received, all of that is why we feel obliged to wholeheartedly support and give our contribution to the creativity of Bosnians film industry” , said Mayor Karić and visited the exhibition “BiH Cinema from 1947 to 1994”.
