Synopsis:

The film is an adaptation of the novel of the same title written by Branimir Šćepanović. Isak, a former neglected and homeless teenager now a completely changed, self-confident and mysterious man, returns to Pasjač. He is looking for his old days’ sweetheart Martha. In a passionate desire to regain her love, he falls into severe delusions. Thanks to the intrigue of the village bastard Čika, in the eyes of Pasjačani villagers he becomes a man of authority. He is hypocritically praised by them, though he was despised until that moment. And Isak too treats them with arrogance. This playing with human dignity pleases him, entertains him. He becomes a cynic. When Martha, because of all that, leaves him, and the people of Pasjac, learning that they have been deceived, trample and spit on him, only then Isak glimpses the path of being a human within the unexplored and elusive limits of human nature.
